The choice of a specific strapping seals is often most strongly influenced by the type of strapping tool or strapping machine selected to apply it. There are five standard types of steel strapping seals.
-
Push-type Seals Used where strap is tensioned by butting the nose of the tensioner against the seal. Overlapping ends withstand the higher stress. Snap-on R.D. Type(open) Fast and easy to use, open seals can be placed over the strap before or after tensioning. Magazine Seals Held together by interlocking nibs. This development allows loading partial stacks into magazines of seal feed combination tools. Open-Flange Seals(Semi-open, Semi-closed) Heavy-duty version of the Open Seal. Requires no pre-threading Snapon seals may be used with all except pusher type and magazine-fed tensioners. Placed in the overlapping strap ends during or after tensioning, they facilitate speedy strapping, Closed Seals Must be threaded over the overlapping strap ends before the tensioning tool is applied. Generally used on bales, bundles, and larger sizes of strap.

SNAP ON seals are applied during or after tensioning and are used with feed wheel tension on flat surfaces: strap is fed directly from coil. THREAD ON sleeve style seals are used on flat surfaces to maintain strap alignment and must be threaded on prior to tensioning. PUSH ON closed style seals are used for round or irregular surfaces. Strap is fed from coil, treaded through seal, and formed into "asso" or slip loop. MAGAZINE NESTED seals are used in high volume applications where seals are required in combination tools and fully powered machines. Seals are loaded into magazine and fed to sealing position around tensioned strap. NOTCHED joints are used on waxed strap, sealer jaws cut seals and strap to aps at edges either regular or down-cut toward package surface or reverse up-cut. CRIMPEDjoints are used on wax free strap; sealer jaws compress seal and strap edges so maximum strength can near parent strap. -
